Waimak United Football Club offers opportunities to players at varying levels of the sport from Junior All Whites (6 and under), through Junior to Senior football in Men and Women’s grades.
Explanation of Junior Grades:
Each grade up to 19 years old is equal to the age the player will turn during the calendar year 1st January to 31 December (ie. a player turning 8 during the year will be 8th grade). Junior All Whites are players from 4th to 6th grade.
JUNIOR ALL WHITES (up to 6 yrs) play on a Saturday at Kendall Park and Maria Andrews between 12:30pm and 1:30pm. A coach is assigned to each team. Format is basic ball skills followed by a 5-a side game. Players are allocated to a team for the season based on their preferred park. A full draw is completed and issued to all players at the beginning of the season. 6th grade JAW will play games at both parks. The younger players will play predominantly at their preferred park with occasional games away. Junior All Whites will be provided with either a bib or shirt and should wear shorts and tops suitable for running around in. Shin Pads are compulsory should be covered by long socks. Boots are suggested but not compulsory.
JUNIORS (7th – 10th grade) play in a North Canterbury competition (between other teams from Waimak United, and the Amberley and Oxford Clubs). 7th-8th grade play 5-a side (no goalkeepers) on half size pitch. 9th-10th grade play 7-a side on a junior pitch. Junior teams practice once a week with their coach, with games on a Saturday morning. Coaches and managers are required for all Junior teams. Players are placed in teams based on their preferred park. 7th - 10th graders need club shorts and socks - the new Waimak colours are plain black for both. For 2010 players can continue to wear their existing club gear if it fits. If you need new gear please buy black. Shin Pads are compulsory. Shirts are provided and boots are preferred.
JUNIORS (11th grade and above) play in a Christchurch competition with the draw administered by Mainland Football. Trials are held for all 11th grade and above (+ 2 x 10th grade). This also includes Girls Only grades at 12th, 14th, 16th and Under 19's. All registered players are required to attend trials to determine the best grade for them to play in. Players who do not attend trials will be placed into teams as and where required. Junior competition teams train up to twice a week at either Kendall Park or Maria Andrews. Home games may be at Kendall Park, Maria Andrews Park, or both. Players must wear new club shorts and socks, both plain black. Shirts will be provided. Shin Pads are compulsory and boots are required at this level.
SENIORS. We offer players the opportunity to play Senior football in the Premier Qualifying League (Division One), Player Development League, Youth grades, Presidents grade for social players, Masters (for over 35’s) and Masters (for over 45's), and Womens grades.
