WAIMAK WHISPER
1ST EDITION
Proudly brought to you by

Welcome to the 1st Edition of the Waimak Whisper.
Finally the first full club start to the season arrived.
The anticipation has been building amongst our juniors for weeks and the season finally arrived for all of our junior footballers on a fine day, with Maria Andrews, the Recreation Ground (aka Mainpower Oval) and Kendall Park all looking fabulous and something to be proud of.
Thanks to all of the clubmembers who have helped get these grounds looking great by erecting posts, getting up nets, and who can forget removing the rocks on Maria Andrews!
SENIORS
The senior teams have been underway since the begining of April.
Our Division One side have worked hard over the weeks and were one of the few sides to test a Premier League side in the English Cup. The final score was 2-4 to Halswell but that flattered Halswell and their 4th goal was only scored as the Waimak team pressed to try and get an equaliser in the final minutes. This week the Senior team took their first points with a hard fought 0-0 draw with Ferrymead.
The Division 5 team has had a mixed start but currently lead their cup pool.
In Masters football, the City team picked up a league point, while the United team sit in a very congested mid table. The next few weeks will be telling. The Silver Streaks lead the Masters 3rd division with 3 solid league wins. The Division 4 Rovers team picked up their first 3 points in the weekend. The Presidents A grade also lead their league with 3 league wins, while the B Grade and C grade boys sit mid table in their respective leagues.
WOMENS
The Division One side gained back to back wins following an early season loss which pushes them into equal 3rd. The Division Three side fought out another win to remain unbeaten and lead their league.
JUNIORS
A few of our Waimak United teams had either the BYE or were defaulted to over the weekend so they have to wait another week to kick off their campaigns. We are sure they have worked hard at training and will come out next weekend with a hiss and a roar.
MAINLAND COMPS
Over 70% of our teams are unbeaten after the first week which is a great effort.
Of note our 16th grade girls beat Pap-Redwood 7-0, the 15th grade boys had a 10-0 win over Nomads, and the 12th grade girls black team beat Parklands by the same margin. Our youngest teams in the CHCH competitions are unbeaten after a 1-1 draw for the Division 1 side, and a 2-1 win for the Division 3 side. This will be a huge learning curve for them and we will follow their progress.
Full results and league tables are available on the Mainland website www.mainlandfootball.co.nz
DISTRICT LEAGUE
Our local competition also kicked off with goals galore. These teams are working through grading before being divided into Sections so the competition will be hard fought. More on these grades in a few weeks as teams aim for the top.
Results and league tables are available by selecting your grade on the club website but not selecting a specific team.
JUNIOR ALL WHITES
For many of our very youngest players, this weekend brought their very first game of football EVER!
I was privileged enough to see a little of the Rangiora Zone teams in action this weekend and the energy and enthusiasm was buzzing!
CLUB MERCHANDISE
New club merchandise available on the website NOW. Polos, Bags, Caps can be ordered now.
Hoodies, and Beanies coming soon....
RESULTS
A big thank-you to those sending through the team results. It was great to get all of the CHCH competition results through so promptly so they could be sent off to Mainland.
We have had about an 80% return from the local competition so we will work on getting that up to 100% too. The club results ph no. was inadvertantly printed incorrectly in one of the coaches publications - so FYI it is 0211367104. We look forward to teams loading up their player statistics. Any keen photographers are welcome to load photos on their team web page - contact your manager for info on how to do it.
DUTY TEAMS
Thanks to the first teams who completed their duty team requirements this weekend. Your volunteer hour for your club is much appreciated.
COACHES
And a special thanks to our fantastic group of coaches who have probably waited a little nervously for the first week of the season. Your time and effort throughout the season is invaluable. Players and parents- please don't forget to thank them after training and games and remember to work as hard for them as they are for you!!
